NYU LogoInterns receive college credit from NYU for completion of coursework designed by NYU faculty specifically for Discovery Internships.

Course Credit Options: One college credit from NYU is included in the program tuition. Discovery Internships offers participants an optional opportunity to earn two additional college credits, for a total of three college credits, granted by NYU. This option requires participants to complete additional coursework and pay a supplementary fee.

Course Description: Students participate in approximately 15 hours of coursework, to be conducted on-site and/or online, during which they learn to identify the skill sets associated with their internship that will allow them to perform to the expectations of their site supervisors. They will explore learning strategies, general codes of conduct, and networking approaches which create a context for individual growth and development throughout a career. A career panel delivered by distinguished professionals will highlight the opportunities and challenges within various fields and help students think about “job fit.”

Practical applications of basic business principles such as resume building, networking, and communication standards will be emphasized. Various industries and career paths will be explored in the context of the current job markets with a focus on building understanding of what today’s organization’s look for in a potential job candidate. Academic assignments are specifically designed to enrich the learning experience throughout the internship.

"The NYU class really helps us dissect and better understand our internships. Instead of simply doing a job, we can see the skills gained and the skills we already intensified. I walk out of class with a better outlook on what I'm doing at my internship."
